Kaarilan koulu

Kaarila school is a Finnish comprehensive school located in Tampere, Finland. The school has approximately 650 pupils (age 6–16) and around 80 staff members. Grades 1–4 are situated in a smaller school building in Hyhky district, while grades 5–9 are in another building in Epilä district. In Hyhky, there are also two pre-school groups within the school building. Kaarilan koulu, like the most schools in Finland, provides special needs support including pupils with special educational needs in mainstream classes and, when necessary, provide special needs education in small teaching groups. In addition to general education, we offer a focus on "Luova muotoilu" (Creative Design), for which students can apply citywide in the seventh grade.

Kaarila school is an accredited organisation in Erasmus+ for years 2023–2027. Our objectives in our Erasmus Plan are:

  • Language and culture skilled EU citizen
  • Well-being and inclusive school – developing study motivation and school satisfaction
  • Strengthening multidisciplinary collaboration and professional development of staff
  • Developing sustainable development and eco-social education in daily school life

As part of our international strategy we support pupils' global citizenship, mobility opportunities and language development. Our goal is to increase collaboration between language groups in grades 1–9 with students from different EU countries, especially with German, French, and Spanish speaking countries as well as the Nordic countries.

During the accreditation period we also aim to increase pupils’ participation in everyday school life. Our goal is to develop class guidance, anti-bullying measures, and recess activities while seeking ways to reduce perceived workload in school. We are looking for practical tips related to pupils' well-being and study strategies and aim to acquire tools for supporting their school work.

We also aim to develop and enhance the principles and practices related to sustainable development and eco-social education in our school. We want to strengthen the expertise of our staff and increase student participation in environmental matters at school.
